Fiddle Student, Corey Sheehan Presents My Hero

Corey is about 11 years old and plays violin pieces, too.

The following piece was composed on the spot in my studio. I coached him by allowing his creativity full play, starting from a simple D pentatonic scale.

I let him play around with the rhythm. Then we played over his first phrase and I encouraged him to play "what comes next."

The process was a first for both of us. The result is very satisfying.

January update: Corey's tune won his school's prize, Pinellas County's first prize, and now goes to Florida
state competition! Way to go, Corey.
