Blocks inside the Violin

View of inside the violin: blocks
End blocks--These two blocks reinforce the structural strength of the violin from inside. One is at the tail piece button end, the saddle, and one at the neck end. They help hold the joints where the ribs meet. Usually made of willow or spruce.

Corner blocks--These reinforce the beautiful recurves of the bouts. There are four, made of the same material as the end blocks.

Lining strips--These thin, long strips of wood run along the inside edge between the ribs and the plates, the top and bottom of the violin. They help hold everything together.
